Callander. Perthshire. Scotland. 1830. Donald Campbell bakes his first tray of rich golden shortbread. Seven generations later the same family is still baking the highest quality shortbread for Scotland, Europe, the World.
Donald Campbell baked his first tray in the Highland village of Callander in 1830. From humble beginnings as a small village bakery, Campbells is now in its 190th year and run by the seventh generation of Donald’s family. For over 100 years, up until the 1960s, Campbells horse-drawn carts then vans delivered delicious tray bakes to appreciative local communities. Then came the first real boom in tourism and Callander, in the heart of the spectacularly beautiful Trossachs, found itself a must-see tourist destination. Gift packed shortbread became an obvious development for the bakery.
By the 1970s Scotland’s food industry was, by and large, moving away from craft to factory production as manufacturers realised the enormous worldwide appetite for premium Scottish produce. Shortbread has become as iconic as Scotch Whisky and often the two go hand in hand. We now concentrate on gift and seasonal lines, still only using the finest ingredients money can buy. Our range of unique and original packaging is the conversation piece of international trade. It always raises a smile.
We use 100% pure butter in all our baking. No scrimping. And no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. All our products are totally OK for vegetarians. Our packaging is a pure delight. From decorative to quirky, traditional tartan to genteel Victoriana, cute to seasonal, we maintain a range that appeals to different tastes and different reasons to buy. Our variety of shapes is equally extensive from fingers to rounds, petticoat tails and squares to ovals. We’re constantly working on refreshing the range and producing innovative, cheerful new lines that come in cartons and tins of all sizes to match all budgets from the generous gift to the picnic pack.
We heavily emboss our packs and our baking is presented within silver wrapped bags and skillets. Our larger packs have individual stay-fresh skillets rather than one large skillet. All products have a 15-month shelf life from date of manufacture. We can guarantee an absolute minimum of 8 months when supplied to our customers. Recognised around the world for its quality and attractive packaging Campbells tins and cartons can be found far and wide from the UK”s gift, tourist and airport shops to select outlets in Australia, Canada, USA, Japan, China, Hong Kong and many other European and Asian countries.
